ABOUT

Gianna grew up in the South where she developed her love for the arts and sweet tea. She attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, a residential arts high school, where she studied acting. She now attends the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and is working toward obtaining her B.F.A. in directing.

She is most interested in telling the stories of underrepresented communities and using art as a lens to encourage folks to reexamine their preexisting belief systems. She values open, honest stories and brave, bold collaboration in all of her work. When not working in the theatre, you can find her shooting 35mm film (check it out here) and appeasing the Duolingo owl with her very consistent Italian studies.

Her recent projects include directing an excerpt from Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women as a part of UNCSA’s Fall 2024 Director’s Festival, which she also produced, as well as assistant directing Fefu and Her Friends by María Irene Fornés and POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive by Selina Fillinger. In the Spring, she will be directing another piece (to be announced) for the Spring 2025 Director’s Festival and assistant directing The Welkin by Lucy Kirkwood for the UNCSA Mainstage.

Gianna Marullo is an actor and director currently based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
